Chapter Ten

Talgat

With the promise of free food and a look inside the castle, Ayala and Rasul jumped at the chance to have dinner with Dale. We showed up at seven-fifteen. I debated with Ayala what seven-ish meant. She had thought it meant we should be there at seven-thirty. I had thought it meant we should arrive at seven. Rasul had laughed at Ayala’s and my disagreement and was no help at all. We had split the difference and showed up at seven-fifteen.

I knocked and waited a few seconds before Dale opened the front door. He was wearing a pair of khaki pants and a white dress shirt that was unbuttoned enough that the muscle definition in his chest could be seen under the shirt. When we walked in and the light hit his shirt just right, it was practically see-through, but only for a second. I wondered if my brain was playing tricks on me, but then he walked under a different light and the same bare back could be seen under his white shirt.

“Who wants a tour?” Dale asked, spinning around.

We all looked at each other and shrugged. I knew Ayala and Rasul were trying to play it cool. I’d told them about my previous visit, so I knew they were itching to see it for themselves. This was one of those houses in Woodstock that everyone knew about but few had gone inside. Dale led off, showing everyone the downstairs areas. He then motioned to the spiraling staircase before taking us into the turret.

“The first floor is basically a giant closet,” Dale said, motioning around once we’d gathered inside the round room.

“This is the largest closet I’ve ever seen,” Ayala said. “And you’re barely using any of it. For that matter, you’re barely using half the house right now.”

“Yeah,” Dale admitted. “It’s a bit much, but apparently my granddad’s secretary got a great deal to rent it out of season. More people seem to want to come up here in the winter.”

“I could see that,” Rasul said, “what with that giant fireplace and all.”

Dale walked over to the spiral staircase and started walking up. “Up here is the master bathroom.”

Ayala, Rasul and I followed him up the stairs, and my siblings were pretty slack-jawed as they stared at the bathroom with the giant tub in the corner. The separate shower was large enough to house an orgy. I wonder if he’s ever had one in there? This bathroom could easily be the size of six normal-sized ones.

He led us up the next flight of stairs to the main bedroom, which was equally amazing. He showed us how the curtains could open automatically, which was admittedly impressive. I loved how the whole thing was set up to allow the sunlight in in the morning, and the moonlight in in the evening, if that’s what you wanted. And the view from Dale’s bedroom was breathtaking. Now, our family home is a good-sized one, but this place was amazing.

I peeked over to see what book Dale had on his bedside table and noticed the bottle of lube sitting there instead.
